In Spain, when someone calls the suicide prevention hotline, they have to wait an average of 1 minute and 30 seconds before speaking to a real person, listening to elevator music, and an automated voice while they’re in crisis.
We saw in that waiting time a tragic gap and an opportunity for technology to truly have purpose.
That’s how SofIA was born: an AI system trained to recognize emotional distress, assess risk levels, and collect key information during the waiting period.
By doing so, it helps prioritize calls and connect those most in need to human agents as quickly as possible.
